Lincoln (Neb.) - Nov. 8, 2001 - Two University of Nebraska-Lincoln Air Force ROTC cadets received national-level scholarships in recognition of their superior accomplishments at UNL.
Angela M. Weber, a senior chemical engineering major from Humboldt, and Megan N. Spilinek, a junior business administration major from Weeping Water, received the United Services Automobile Association Scholarship Award based on their demonstrated leadership, organizational ability, teamwork and academics.
These scholarships are awarded annually to Air Force ROTC cadets who excel in all facets of the ROTC program. Winners are selected from cadets at universities and colleges from across the nation.
This year, 10 cadets were selected to receive the USAA Scholarship Award. Recipients receive an engraved brass clock along with the $1,000 scholarship.
Col. Mace MacElhaney, professor of aerospace studies at UNL, accepted the awards for both cadets at a national Air Force ROTC Commanders' Conference in Atlanta recently and presented the awards to the students Oct 25.
"I am extremely proud of both of these cadets and their many
achievements here in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Air Force ROTC
program," MacElhaney said. "They have worked hard and excelled in
everything they've done - academically, athletically, militarily, and in
numerous extracurricular activities. I am particularly pleased that we
had two winners from the University of Nebraska, and I think that says a
great deal about the quality of cadets we have in our program. Both of
these young ladies are well deserving of this very prestigious award."
