INTERNATIONAL BUSINESSMAN CALLAHAN TO VISIT CBA

Lincoln (Neb.) - Jan. 18, 2002 - University of Nebraska alum Richard Callahan, who runs one of the leading cable communications companies in Europe, will visit the College of Business Administration at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Jan. 22 and 23.

During his visit as part of the college's Executive-in-Residence program, Callahan will meet with professors, student groups and organizations to share his 36 years of experience in the telecommunications industry and international business.

Callahan was a teammate of Frank Solich on early-Bob Devaney era Cornhusker football teams and played in the 1964 Orange Bowl.

His first job out of college was as a telephone lineman. He went on to serve as president of US West International (1991-1995) and founded Callahan Associates International L.L.C. in 1996 (http://www.callahanassoc.com). That company develops, operates and finances communications, entertainment and information projects worldwide. It is one of the leading cable communications operators in Europe with more than 19 million franchise homes. Callahan also launched Callahan Broadband Wireless Inc. with operations in Europe and the Philippines.

Some highlights of Callahan's visit include: Jan. 22 - 2 p.m., address Professor Jim Gentry's international marketing class in 117 CBA on the topic of international telecommunications and regulation issues; 3 p.m., meet MBA students for informal discussion in 222 CBA; Jan. 23 - 9 a.m., tour the College of Business Administration Building; 10 a.m., tour the Esther Kauffman Center, home to the J.D. Edwards Honors Program in Computer Science and Management.
