Lincoln, Neb., June 13, 2002 -- The University Program Council and Mary Riepma Ross Film Theater at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will again sponsor the film series, "Movies on the Green," this summer.
Classic films will be shown outdoors on the lawn north of Kimball Recital Hall, 12th and R streets, on Thursdays from July 11 through Aug. 15 beginning at sunset. The movies are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available. Patrons should bring blankets or lawn chairs. In case of rain, the program will be canceled.
This year's series is dedicated to the late cartoon genius Chuck Jones and includes screening a selection of his most memorable cartoons prior to the feature films. Following is the schedule of "Movies on the Green" (with U.S. Naval Observatory sunset times for Lincoln in parentheses).
July 11 (8:59 p.m.) -- "M*A*S*H," directed by Robert Altman (1970), starring Donald Sutherland, Elliott Gould, Tom Skerritt, Sally Kellerman, Jo Ann Pflug and Robert Duval. Cartoon: "Duck Dodgers in the 24th Century" (1953), starring Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and Marvin the Martian.
July 18 (8:55 p.m.) -- "Shampoo," directed by Warren Beatty (1975), starring Beatty, Julie Christie, Goldie Hawn, Lee Grant, Jack Warden and Tony Bill. Cartoons: "For Scent-imental Reasons" (1949), starring Pepe Le Pew; and "One Froggy Evening" (1955), starring Michigan J. Frog.
July 25 (8:50 p.m.) -- "The Graduate," directed by Mike Nichols (1967), starring Anne Bancroft, Dustin Hoffman, Katharine Ross, William Daniels, Murray Hamilton and Elizabeth Wilson. Cartoons: "Rabbit Seasoning" (1952), starring Bugs Bunny, Duck and Elmer Fudd; and "What's Opera, Doc?" (1950), starring Bunny and Fudd.
Aug. 1 (8:43 p.m.) -- "To Sir, With Love," directed by James Clavell (1967), starring Sidney Poitier, Christian Roberts, Judy Geeson, Suzy Kendall, Lulu and Ann Bell. Cartoons: "Robin Hood Daffy" (1958). starring Duck and Pig; and "Operation Rabbit" (1952), starring Bunny and Wile E. Coyote.
Aug. 8 (8:34 p.m.) -- "Goldfinger," directed by Guy Hamilton (1964), starring Sean Connery, Honor Blackman, Gert Frobe, Shirley Eaton, Tania Mallet and Harold Sakata. Cartoons: "Duck Amuck" (1953), starring Duck, and "Bewitched Bunny" (1954), starring Bunny and Witch Hazel.
Aug. 15 (8:25 p.m.) -- "The Three Stooges Meet Hercules," directed by
