Summer Weed Identification Walking Tour Is Aug. 10 on East Campus

Lincoln, Neb., July 26, 2002 -- The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Botanical Garden and Arboretum will hold a summer weed identification walking tour Aug. 10 on East Campus. The tour is free and open to the public.

The session will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Gazebo in Maxwell Arboretum. The tour will be led by Laurence Ballard, nursery plant supervisor for UNL Landscape Services.

"We will gather at the gazebo, then walk on campus to find common landscape weeds that flourish in summer and learn strategies to deal with them," said Ballard, who worked as a trial research technician in Australia for three years where he learned to recognize weeds that can interfere with new crop research.
