Regent Candidates Ojeda and Wilson to Debate Oct. 1

When: Tuesday, Oct. 1, 7 p.m.
Where: Nebraska Union Auditorium, 1400 R St.

Lincoln, Neb., Sept 26, 2002 -- The Association of Students of the University of Nebraska will host a debate Oct. 1 between Tony Ojeda and Charles Wilson, District 1 candidates for the University of Nebraska board of regents. The debate begins at 7 p.m. in the Nebraska Union Auditorium, 1400 R St. The event is free and open to the public.

"This debate is extremely important because this election is held only once every six years," said Ryan Wilkins, president of ASUN, the student government body at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. "The fact that these two candidates have such different views on large issues makes the debate even more important for those that will be voting and are unsure of who to vote for.

"This is such a key time also for the university because of the repeated budget cuts and the regents are the ones that have such a large say in matters like that, which affect the entire university and surrounding community."

The debate format will pose two questions to each candidate with time for rebuttal. The candidates will also field questions from the audience.
