Academic Planning Committee Announces Final Budget Hearing Dates

Lincoln, Neb., Oct. 8, 2002 -- The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Academic Planning Committee has added an additional hearing Oct 17 to its previously scheduled series of public hearings to gather input on proposed budget reductions at the university.

Three days had been held in reserve, but Oct. 17 is the only reserve day that will be required. All sessions are open to the public. Hearings have already taken place on Sept. 23 and Oct. 7 and 8. The remaining hearings follow:

Oct. 10, 2-5 p.m. videoconference in 116 L.W. Chase Hall on UNL's East Campus and South Central Research and Extension Center, west building (4 1/2 miles west of Clay Center on state spur 18D) -- hearing on closing of South Central Research and Extension Center. Those wanting to testify sign in at 1:15 p.m.

Oct. 11, 1-4 p.m. videoconference in 116 L.W. Chase Hall and West Central Research and Extension Center in North Platte, Snyder Building Auditorium -- hearing on Veterinary Diagnostic Lab, family life specialist and learning center eliminations. Those wanting to testify sign in at 12:15 p.m.

Oct. 17, 1-5 p.m. in Nebraska East Union, room posted -- only invited testimony accepted. 1 p.m., Nebraska Center on Economics Education; 2 p.m., vice chancellor for business and finance; 2:30 p.m. Academic Senate representative; 3 p.m., department of community and regional planning. The APC may invite additional presenters to this session.

UNL must cut $7.5 million from its budget. Chancellor Harvey Perlman made recommendations Sept. 10, which are now before the APC for hearings. The committee will return recommendations to Perlman Oct. 28 with the chancellor's final decision tentatively set to be announced Nov. 11.
