Applications Sought for Nebraska Young Artist Awards

Lincoln, Neb., Oct. 10, 2002--The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts seeks applications for the 2003 Nebraska Young Artist Awards.

The awards annually recognize Nebraska high school juniors who exemplify outstanding creativity in the fine and performing arts (music, dance, theatre, art, or film and new media). University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty will make the final decisions on which students are invited to UNL based on these applications.

To be recognized, students must submit an application, as well as supporting materials (as outlined on the application form). Students selected by UNL faculty will be invited to come to campus April 9 for a day of activities that will offer opportunities to accompany a college student in a specific discipline to classes and rehearsals; tour facilities; meet with faculty members in their studios and offices; and go to lunch with faculty members and college students. The day will end with an awards ceremony where the selected students will receive a certificate and a limited-edition piece of artwork created by a student in the Department of Art and Art History.

During the past five years, more than 400 students have been recognized from across the entire state of Nebraska.
