Semester Abroad in Czech Republic Set for Spring at Palacky University

Lincoln, Neb., Oct. 15, 2002--Nebraska Semester Abroad in the Czech Republic, sponsored by the Office of International Affairs at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is enrolling students for the spring semester.

All students are eligible and there is no foreign language requirement. The program consists of 12 credit hours earned at Palacky University in Olomouc, an ancient walled city located about halfway between Vienna and Prague. The course of study includes two Eastern European studies classes taught in English by two Czech professors and four credits of independent study in a department of the student's choice. These courses cover a project of the student's choice and lectures as well as field trips to Prague, Krakow, Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, Munich and other sites. Classes in the Czech language are also included in the curriculum. All credits are transferable to the student's home institution.

Classes will be offered from mid-March until late May, but students will be registered beginning in January. Up to three additional credits may be arranged at additional cost. Coursework will make full use of location and surroundings. Some weekends and the spring break will be free for individual exploration. Students will travel together to Europe as a group, but return dates after June 1 are flexible to fit individual interests.

The cost of the program is $6,000, including tuition, room and board in Olomouc, airfare from Omaha, field trips and insurance. Financial aid counseling is available at students' home universities. Students' current financial aid and scholarship packages are applicable to this program and low-cost student loans are available. Students who are selected must make a $500 nonrefundable deposit by Oct. 29 to guarantee placement, but applications will be accepted until the program is full.
