Entrepreneurship Center Announces Business Plan Competition Winners

Lincoln, Neb., Dec. 20, 2002--Winners have been announced for the forth-annual Alice Dittman/Cornhusker Bank Business Plan Competition. The event is hosted by the Nebraska Center for Entrepreneurship at the College of Business Administration, University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Named for its sponsor, Alice Dittman, chairman emeritus of the board of directors of Cornhusker Bank, the competition is limited to UNL students who write a business plan for a seed, start-up or early-stage venture. They must address the entire business concept, including implementation. During the final round of competition Dec. 7, students presented their plans to a panel of successful entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and bankers acting as judges. Winners were awarded cash prizes ranging from $1,000 to $100.

Seven undergraduate level teams and six graduate level teams competed.

Following is a list of the winners (with the student's year in school, academic major and hometown are listed in parentheses, if available), and the names of their business.

Undergraduate level: First place, Suzanne Minarick (senior, management, North Bend), Sunshine Butte Family Medical Clinic; second place, Kirk Hanson (junior, finance, Valley), Cedar Springs Lake and Golf Course Community; third place, Michelle Stroh (senior, agricultural education, Lincoln) Elegant Multimedia Services.

Graduate level: First place, John Mohn (business, Omaha), Honey-Do, Inc.; second place Kurt Ramaekers (business, Lincoln), Miracle Mow; third place (tie), Ken Sapp (business, Clatonia) Gerisys Pharmacies, and Chris Wasik, WingGrip.
