3 Companies Intend to Bid on Husker Radio Contract

Lincoln, Neb., Dec. 20, 2002--The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has received notice from three radio broadcast entities that each intends to submit a competitive proposal for the license to broadcast UNL sporting events including Husker football games.

By today's 5 p.m. deadline to submit written intention to submit a proposal, Pinnacle Sports Productions, Waitt Media and Learfield Communications had indicated that they would each submit a proposal for the license by the Jan. 3, 2003, deadline.

Pinnacle Sports Productions, Inc., currently holds a license from the NU Board of Regents to the exclusive live radio broadcast rights for selected UNL intercollegiate athletic events. That license is in effect until July 31, 2006. The university and Pinnacle sought an extension of those rights to July 31, 2011. The board postponed approval of the agreement until its meeting on Jan. 18, 2003, and directed UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman to provide interested parties an opportunity to make competing proposals relative to the extension.
