Perlman Appoints 15 to Senior Vice Chancellor Search Committee

Lincoln, Neb., Sept. 22, 2003 -- University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Harvey Perlman has appointed a 15-member search advisory committee as the university begins a national search for a new senior vice chancellor for academic affairs.

John Owens, UNL vice chancellor and NU system vice president of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, will chair the committee. The other members are:

* Ruma Banerjee, Professor, Biochemistry;
* John Bergmeyer, Lincoln attorney and chair of the College of Business Administration Advisory Board;
* Learthen Dorsey, Associate Professor, History;
* John Hibbing, Professor, Political Science;
* Kay Logan-Peters, Professor, Libraries;
* Jack Oliva, Dean, Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts;
* Lance Perez, Associate Professor, Electrical Engineering;
* Barbara Plake, Professor, Educational Psychology;
* Linda Pratt, Professor, English;
* Annie Scott, Lincoln Public Schools;
* Joe Starita, Associate Professor, News-Editorial;
* Dolores Tarver, Graduate Student;
* Katie Weichman, Senator, Association of Students of the University of Nebraska;
* Charles Wood, Professor, Biological Sciences.

The senior vice chancellor for academic affairs is the chief academic officer for the campus and is second to the chancellor in the university's organizational chart. The office provides leadership and support for academic programs and serves as chief advocate for faculty and students.

Richard Edwards, who has held the post since April 1997, announced on July 2 that he plans to step down from the position in December to move to a teaching and research position in UNL's College of Business Administration.
