Lincoln, Neb., Nov. 26, 2003 -- Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadet Janelle Jenniges has received national recognition for her superior accomplishments at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Col. Robert Tovado, professor of aerospace studies at UNL, notified Jenniges of her selection for the United Services Automobile Association Scholarship Award during the annual Air Force ROTC military ball. She is one of four cadets in the nation to receive this prestigious award that recognizes outstanding Air Force ROTC cadets who rank in the upper 10 percent of their class and demonstrate achievement in leadership, organizational ability, teamwork and academics.
Cadet Jenniges, a four-year Air Force ROTC scholarship winner from Ellsworth, Minn., is highly involved on campus and in the Lincoln community. A meteorology/climatology major, she holds a 3.95 grade point average. She has been an active participant in the university intramural program, playing football, soccer, and broomball. She also received the Athletic Award during Air Force ROTC summer field training, scored the maximum 500 points on the Air Force ROTC physical fitness test and was selected as a distinguished graduate of field training. She actively participates in the Arnold Air Society, a community service-based organization within Air Force ROTC, and has volunteered to instruct children at the Lincoln Children's Museum, in addition to her other numerous volunteer activities.
"I am extremely proud of Cadet Jenniges' accomplishments here in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Air Force ROTC program," Col. Tovado said. "She has excelled in everything she has done -- academically, athletically, militarily and in numerous extracurricular activities. She sets the standards for others to emulate and has demonstrated extraordinary leadership skills during all facets of her training. She is a top-notch cadet and is well deserving of this very prestigious award."
