UNL Moot Court Team Advances to National Competition

Lincoln, Neb., Dec. 15, 2003 -- A team of students from the University of Nebraska College of Law has advanced to the final round of the 54th Annual National Moot Court Competition to be held in New York City the week of Feb. 2. The team won the regional competition held Nov.21-22 at the Creighton University School of Law in Omaha.

This is the eighth time in the past 10 years that a team from Nebraska has advanced to the finals.

The advancing team is comprised of Jarrod P. Crouse of Springview, Neb., Heather Holland of Omaha, and Rachel Spicer of Odessa. Texas. They will compete with 27 other U.S. law colleges in the finals.

The competition problem focused on two legal issues involving trademark infringement and the First Amendment to the Constitution.

The team lost in the preliminary round to a team from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, but in the final round swept teams from Washburn University, the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville, the University of Kansas, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City to win the regional competition.

Holland won the American College of Trial Lawyers silver bowl as the best oral advocate in the final round of the competition.

Also competing from UNL was a team comprised of Cyndi Lamm of Oceanside, Calif., Russell Metcalf of Layton, Utah, and David Proksel of Omaha.
