Patent & Trademark Depository Library 25th Anniversary

Lincoln, Neb., Dec. 15, 2003 -- The Patent and Trademark Depository Library at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries, has been a resource to Nebraska inventors and businesses for the last 25 years. The anniversary was marked on Dec. 2 with a day of training and a reception hosted by the UNL Libraries and the U.S, Patent and Trademark Depository Library Program in Washington, D.C.

"During the last 25 years, residents of Nebraska have been granted over 4,624 patents, with 2,251 of those to independent inventors," said Amanda Putnam, manager and one of the trainers sent from the Patent and Trademark Depository Library Program. "The University of Nebraska is ranked 66th among the top 100 (research and development) universities and has received 218 utility patents from 1969 to 2000."

The Patent and Trademark Depository Library at UNL is one of 86 libraries in 49 states and the only one in Nebraska. The library makes patent and trademark information readily available to the general public and in that capacity it serves as an important resource to UNL's research and outreach missions. The library's staff answers the questions of inventors and entrepreneurs from throughout the state of Nebraska.

"Businesses, researchers, inventors and the general public gain access to the best patent and trademark search tools, publications, training and expertise to capitalize on a new idea or grow their business," Putnam said.

The UNL Patent and Trademark Depository Library is housed in the Engineering Library, W204 Nebraska Hall. More information about its hours, collections and services can be found online at iris.unl.edu.
