Lincoln (Neb.) - Aug. 25, 1997 - Anyone seeking a quiet spot away from the Cornhuskers' football season opener or a cooler spot away from the Nebraska State Fair on Aug. 30 might try checking out the state-of-the-art quilt storage area built for the James Quilt Collection on the University of Nebraska- Lincoln's East Campus.
The first public tours of the facility are scheduled from 1- 4 p.m. that day on the second floor of the Home Economics Building on UNL's East Campus.
Patricia Cox Crews, professor of textiles, clothing and design, said tours will start on the hour and half-hour. She said a few selected quilts from the $6 million James Collection will also be available for public viewing.
Ardis and Robert James of Chappaqua, N.Y., donated their
collection of approximately 950 antique and contemporary quilts
to UNL earlier this year. They also gave a $1 million endowed
gift to the University of Nebraska Foundation to establish an
International Quilt Study Center at UNL. Crews is the center's
first director.
