Design Toolbox

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln communicates with many and diverse audiences. Part of the goal of every university communication is to identify consistently and positively with the university.  The guidelines in this Toolbox, initially developed by the ad hoc University Marketing Design Team, are designed to assist with the process of implementing a simple, attractive and economical identity system that is flexible enough to allow campus units to maintain their uniqueness and individuality.

Campus communicators and others who develop print, web and related pieces, can use this Toolbox as a reference when developing new projects or overhauling existing materials.  In addition to guidelines, the Toolbox contains a design basics section and a policy section featuring background information describing the rationale for specific guidelines.

Logos and Fonts

In order to creative a cohesive brand for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the Toolbox emphasizes the importance of logo and font consistency. Color, style, size and fonts utilized when reproducing the UNL logo are monitored, to ensure that only approved variations are used. Likewise, fonts and other marks should present a cohesive appearance to underscore the UNL brand.

This attention to standards is extremely important, as hundreds of departments, colleges, individuals, centers and event planners utilize the UNL logo in their printed and online materials. Without standards, the "look" of UNL would vary greatly, contributing to a sense of disorganization and lack of consensus.

The list of local licensees are those vendors who paid a full fee to be able to create Nebraska merchandise for resale in the public sector. They can also be considered licensed vendors for University departments. List of Nebraska Local Licensees
