Banner Committee Report
June 17, 1999, amended September 18, 2000

Introduction

The Banner Committee, including representatives from Facilities Management, Institutional Research and Planning, Landscape Services, and Public Relations, was appointed in January, 1999, to explore the possibilities of placing banners on light poles in strategic locations in order to bring visual attention to the high traffic areas of both campuses and to visually unify City and East Campus as parts of the same whole. The group was also charged with recommending a banner policy to campus units who wish to publicize special events through the use of banners.

Campus Identity Banners

Three locations for the display of Campus Identity Banners have been selected based on their importance as high traffic areas for vehicles or pedestrians and the uniformity of available banner display poles:
A vendor will be selected based on quality of hardware and banner materials for maximum durability for year-round display over an extended period of time.

Banner Policy for Campus Events

Campus Identity Banners could be temporarily removed from specified light poles at the plaza north of the Nebraska Union on City Campus and at the Nebraska East Union in order to display banners for campus events. The following restrictions would apply:

Additional Banner Display Locations

Campus units who are interested in displaying banners on light poles in a location other than those selected for the Campus Identity Banners or hanging temporary banners from buildings must have their requests for scheduling and location approved on a case-by-case basis by the Aesthetic Review Committee. The following considerations should be taken into account.

At this time, five poles in the area near Kimball Hall, Architecture Hall, and the Sheldon Memorial Gallery have been identified as suitable for an additional banner display location.
