This project focuses on the mechanism(s) for how HIV-1-infected mononuclear phagocytes (brain macrophages and microglia) alter neural physiological processes (including modulation of synaptic transmission and plasticity and regulation of receptor / ion channel function) and lead to neural cell dysfunction or death during HIV-1-aossociated dementia.
