This proposal focuses on evaluating different immunization strategies using adjuvants and antibody immunotherapies to enhance protective immune responses induced by HIV vaccine candidates. A “novel” rodent model for HIV infection is used to test the vaccine strategies. A humanized mouse with long-term reconstitution of human functional lymphoid tissues was recently achieved by transplanting human hematopoietic stem cells into immunodeficient mice. Such mice provide unique platform for screening HIV vaccines, and to filter the vaccine pipeline and select an effective candidate.
