Rationale
The Web Developer Network provides easy to use resources for publishing information online that coordinate the message.
These resources are available to all interested parties, and your participation is welcome. All aspects of template development are open and freely available to anyone
interested.
If you are interested in joining the Web Developer Network at UNL, sign up
for a training class or get in touch with the community.
Web Recommendations
The Next Generation Web Committee (NGWC) developed recommendations for UNL's web presence in a document titled, "University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Web Presence — Recommendations for the Future" which is a white paper with recommendations for a unified web presence.
Why Dreamweaver Templates?
The university has many websites running on all different technologies. As such, the UNL templates need to work on ASP/IIS, PHP/IIS/Apache, as well as many content management systems like Lenya, Mambo/Joomla, Xaraya etc. Dreamweaver templates offer a good solution because the source is plain (x)html, and the template syntax uses html comments - so you can use the templates in any development environment you need.
Want something more advanced?
The Web Developer Network has users developing template-based sites with completely object oriented code using open source PHP, as well as many content management systems (CMS). See the UNL Templates PEAR Package and the additional resources in the Bulletin Board.
