Carly Woods, assistant professor of Communication Studies and Women’s & Gender Studies, helped kick off UNL Women’s Week by participating in a panel discussion following a screening of All of Me on Sunday, March 16. The documentary explores the challenges faced by a group of obese women and the complicated relationships between food, fat, and women’s bodies. The screening was part of the NET Coffee and Conversation community engagement series. The post-film discussion focused on gender, body image, and media representations. Anne Widga, a registered dietitian, licensed medical nutrition therapist and certified diabetes educator, joined Woods on the panel, along with a post-op bariatric patient from a local support group.
