WGS Faculty Earn Service Awards & Honors

On September 30, 1,046 employees received honors for years of service to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln during the annual Service Awards ceremony at the Lied Center for the Performing Arts, held in conjunction with Chancellor Harvey Pearlman's annual State of the University Address and All-University Picnic. The awards are presented to UNL employees for completing years of service in five-year intervals and are calculated both on consolidated or continuous regular employment.

Eleven former and current Women's & Gender Studies affiliate faculty are being celebrated for the service to the university. Mary Jo Deegan (Sociology), Mary Anne Holmes (Earth and Atmospheric Sciences), and Karen Lyons (English & University Honors Program), all retired, received emeritus honors during the ceremony.

Current faculty who received service awards include Radha Balasubramanian (Modern Languages and Literatures), for 25 years of service; Gwendolyn Audrey Foster (English) and Ruth M. Heaton (Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education), for 20 years of service; Amelia Maria de la Luz Montes (English & Ethnic Studies) and Michael F. James (Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design), for 15 years of service; Melissa J. Homestead (English), for 10 years of service; and Alice Kang (Political Science & Ethnic Studies) and Emily Kazyak (Sociology & Women's and Gender Studies), for 5 years of service.
