As we prepare to kick-off the 2014-2015 academic year, I must admit I’m quite excited to get things going again. If you, like me, are involved in various interest groups you understand the summer hiatus has been a long one. It’s time to come back together!
By now you all should have received the fall 2014 newsletter (and it is always available here on the website). Please take time to browse the jam-packed pages and add the event dates to your calendars. Our first event, the annual Welcome Tea, is going to follow a new format this year and I’m so very pleased that many of our members are joining me on September 10th at the Hilton Garden Inn in the Haymarket. In addition to being able to pay dues, sign up for interest groups and socialize with fellow members, this year we will also be treated to a plated breakfast, view the club’s silver collection and have access to our special 120th anniversary UNL Women’s Club items. Over the summer the fundraising team worked with a UNL student to create a 120th anniversary logo.
I can’t say enough about the wonderful items being offered as our fundraiser this year. The first item is a UNLWC pin that can be worn with everything and will never go out of style. Our other items are special 120th anniversary pieces and each has an event to accompany the theme. The first fundraiser event is on November 2nd at Bennett Martin Library where the item of focus is a book/tote bag. The second fundraising event will happen in March 2015 at Meier’s Cork and Bottle for our wine glass. Just click on the fundraiser page of this website; plus all items will be available at the Welcome Tea and Fall Brunch. I predict once you see these beauties in person, each will find their way home with you. Showcase that UNL Women’s Club pride with club swag!
The Fall Tour will visit Lauritzen Gardens on October 8th. Remember that space on the bus is limited so get your registration in quickly so you can go on this fabulous trip. It will be a lovely day, returning to Lincoln around 2:30pm so even those with after-school pickup duty can attend.
The fall semester would not be complete without the Fall Brunch and this year it will meet on November 12th, which so happens to corresponds without our 120th anniversary. This year we will be treated to the sweet sounds of “Skyros”, a string quartet. Don’t fail to attend this wonderful event.I am so proud to belong to a club that has been in existence for 120 years and I sincerely hope each of you join me throughout the year to share in our anniversary celebrations.
