Being a Writing Center consultant can be tremendously fun and rewarding. If you like to write, like talking about writing, and like the idea of being part of a community of writers then you may very much enjoy Writing Center work. The Writing Center at UNL also encourages our consultants to read, write, and talk extensively about teaching, both in the classroom and one-with-one. So if you enjoy and are interested in teaching, the Writing Center may be a great place for you to gain experience. Finally the Writing Center at UNL encourages our consultants to read, write, and talk extensively at the intersections of critical theory, critical pedagogy, and literacy studies. So if you're interested in the relationships of cultural studies, feminist and gender studies, critical race theory, queer theory, for example, to literacy education and writing center pedagogy, you may very much enjoy working in the Writing Center.
