MESSAGE FROM PROFESSOR FALCONE
Congratulations on passing the first round of auditions for the Cornhusker Marching Band! You are part of an elite group that now has the opportunity to become a part of one of the finest college marching bands in the country and perhaps the most visible student organization on the University campus.
Needless to say, this will not be an ordinary year. The effects of the Coronavirus/Covid-19 Pandemic will be felt in almost everything we do. Things will be different, but we can still make a great contribution and have meaningful experiences. The Husker fan base will be looking to us to provide a sense of the familiar and give hope for when we are past all of this. It will be challenging for sure, but as Band people, there’s nobody better to rise to this challenge.
I’ll ask a few things of you: first and foremost, take care of yourself and each other. There's no denying the mental and physical stress we've been under, and this will likely continue and may increase. Please seek help if you need it.
Next, we'll need to be flexible. There’s a lot we simply don’t know, and many things will be dictated to us from elsewhere. As we all did last March, we'll need to be able to "turn on a dime" as things inevitably change. Again, there's no one better at this than Band people, and I have faith in you.
Lastly, be your wonderful selves! People will be counting on our enthusiasm to make them feel better about things. Their smiles and cheers will help you as well!
Second Round Auditions and Band Camp will also look quite a bit different this year. Details are being finalized and we'll get you that information as soon as we know it. We've already introduced our Virtual Band Camp project, and the Student Leadership Team will be taking you through this throughout the summer. Do the best you can, and remember that you have a large support group of the best people on this campus at your disposal. Don't be shy about seeking help. Also, there will be those who will try and discourage you from participating. The band is perhaps the best gateway into campus involvement there is. There are typically over 70 different academic majors represented. The band can help you to be a more successful student. You can do it!
I hope that our veterans will continue to hone their skills, and lead by example. The great traditions of the CMB live in you. Your knowledge and experience are vital to our success. We are a family; be there for each other!
Again, congratulations for making it to this level. You should take great pride in your accomplishment, for there are many talented individuals that we could not invite to camp. I look forward to meeting you in August and to helping this year’s version of "THE PRIDE OF ALL NEBRASKA" become the ultimate in collegiate marching bands!
