Auditions

Concert Ensemble Auditions

Wind Ensemble:  Although most members are music majors, there are no membership restrictions based on degree program.  Wind Ensemble auditions take place during the first week of classes in the fall, and again in December.  Audition music is pre-determined by the Glenn Korff School of Music faculty and is available by downloading it from this web site.

Symphonic Band:  Symphonic Band auditions take place during the first week of classes in the fall, and again in December.  Audition music can be obtained from the Band Office or by it from this web site.

Campus Bands:  Camps Band Section 001 meets Tuesdays while Section 002 meets Thursdays.  Both bands perform on a single concert and no audition is required.  Just register for the class.

Athletic Bands

Cornhusker Marching Band:  Candidates for the brass and woodwind sections must complete a two-part audition process.  Playing auditions are held in the spring and consist of a prepared solo and a major scale.  Students living outside of Nebraska's borders may submit a recorded audition (MP3 file) for the first round, but all candidates must attend the second round of auditions on campus.  The marching portion (second round) audition is held in August and consists of a two-day clinic followed by a group audition, which emphasizes fundamental marching skills.  Candidates for the color guard (flag line) must complete a two-part audition process as well.  Candidates are not required to choreograph routines.  All audition materials, routines and music are provided and taught by the band staff.  Twirler auditions are held in the spring, and consist of original choreographed and impromptu routines. Percussion auditions are held in the spring and consist of an all-day clinic. See the Cornhusker Marching Band audition page for more information. All members of the Cornhusker Marching Band must be enrolled as full-time University of Nebraska–Lincoln students and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater.

Big Red Express:  Active members of the Big Red Express receive a small stipend. Big Red Express auditions are open to all University students.  Auditions are scheduled in the spring (same dates as the marching band auditions). All members of the Big Red Express must be enrolled as full-time students and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater.
