Update on EVC search

Colleagues,

As we head toward the final six weeks of classes for the 2016 fall semester, I wanted to quickly update you on our search for the next University of Nebraska-Lincoln executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer.

Over the last few weeks, our campus community met with four finalists for this position. All were well qualified and offered many exceptional attributes, and we are deeply appreciative of their time and interaction with us.

Good Afternoon-
I am very pleased to announce today that I have recommended to President Bounds the appointment of Dr. Michael Boehm as the next University of Nebraska-Lincoln Harlan Vice Chancellor for the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources and University of Nebraska vice president for Agriculture and Natural Resources. 

Communicating benchmark reports and ongoing diversity and inclusion efforts

As you know, we began this academic year with a stronger focus on diversity and inclusion. Our incoming class is the most diverse in the university’s history, and this fall we added more specificity on our diversity and inclusion beliefs in relation to the university’s core values, which were established in 2006. We also hosted our first Husker Dialogues event for incoming students, and we established the Diversity Programming Excellence fund.

 As you know, the University of Nebraska has been in the spotlight over the last few days in regard to freedom of speech. This has been in response to a peaceful demonstration by three of our student athletes during the national anthem at the football game last Saturday. 

State of the University

Colleagues,

It is a wonderful time to be at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with unprecedented and palpable momentum across our statewide campus. This is a particularly exciting week, as I have my inaugural opportunity to dialogue with you at the 2016 State of the University Address. We will gather as a university community at 2 p.m. this Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Lied Center for Performing Arts for this annual chance to step back, breathe and take stock of our progress.

Please join our campus community at Husker Dialogues on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. Husker Dialogues is a University of Nebraska-Lincoln event for first-year students designed to sponsor conversation about promoting inclusion, respect, understanding and freedom of expression for diverse perspectives and identities in the Husker community. You may attend the 5:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. program. Please arrive 15 to 20 minutes early to ensure adequate time for seating. Each session will last about 90 minutes.

Our dear friend and colleague Prem S. Paul passed away last night, surrounded by his loving family. As you know, Prem served admirably as our Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development, and just recently decided to step down from his role.
