Dear UNL Faculty, Students and Staff –
This morning, Executive Vice Chancellor Elizabeth Spiller informed the Deans and faculty that she is stepping down from her role at Thanksgiving for family reasons. A link to EVC Spiller’s note is here.
I want to thank Elizabeth for her dedicated service to our university and its academic mission. She joined our community as the COVID-19 pandemic was first sweeping our nation. Her first week on campus was the week in March of 2020 when we cancelled classes in advance of Spring Break to prepare for all remote instruction afterward.
Elizabeth led at a time of great challenge and was a consistent voice for safety while focusing on ensuring we delivered a quality education to our students. Through innovative measures such last year’s Winter mini-sessions and the Husker Starter Pack, she and her team helped to ensure that our students continued to advance forward despite the obstacles of the pandemic. Measures such as these helped to produce our highest increase in our 6-year graduation. She will leave an imprint on UNL.
We will soon announce our steps forward for this important role. In the meantime, I hope you will join me in thanking Elizabeth for everything she brought to UNL, and her leadership during a time of such great change.
I wish her and her family good health and all the best as she moves forward.
Ronnie D. Green, Ph.D.
