Assistant to the Chancellor for Government and Military Relations
Michelle Waite has served on the staff of the chancellor since August 1998. She is the principal adviser to Chancellor Ronnie Green regarding relations between the university and many of its external constituencies, including local, state and federal governmental agencies. On behalf of UNL she is primary interface with the Nebraska Unicameral and other elected officials. In this capacity, she is responsible for the strategic management of the university’s legislative agenda and guidance regarding matters of public policy.
Her role in the Chancellor’s office also includes interactions with all branches of the military, military organizations and related community organizations. Michelle supervises the campus ROTC units and serves as the liaison with the Military and Veteran Success Center. She also is responsible for facilitating special recognition activities and military-associated events.
Michelle represents the university on a variety of governmental and community projects and boards. She also serves as the advisor to UNL’s Innocents Society, the chancellor’s senior honorary, and works with ASUN’s Government Liaison Committee on behalf of the UNL administration. On behalf of her service, Michelle has received the Meritorious Service Award from the Nebraska National Guard Association; a Woman of Character, Courage & Commitment recognition and she was a Student Impact Award Finalist for New Advisor of the Year.
Prior to coming to UNL, Michelle served 11 years as a legislative aide in the Nebraska Legislature, working as the lead staffer for former Sen. Ron Withem of Papillion and Sen. Ron Raikes of Lincoln. Michelle is a graduate of Doane College and earned her master’s degree in Legal Studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Law.
