Assistant to the Chancellor for Community Relations
Michelle Waite became assistant to the chancellor for community relations at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in August 1998. She is the principal adviser to Chancellor Ronnie Green regarding university relations between the university and many of its external constituencies, including the state legislature, governmental agencies, the business community, economic development officers and other community organizations. Representing the university, she works on a variety of community projects and boards. Organizing the chancellor’s community visits across the state, Michelle also works with neighborhoods and Nebraska communities. She has orchestrated official campus tours for visiting dignitaries and facilitated relationships with business leaders and civic groups.
Some of her responsibilities include advisor to the Innocents Society, the chancellor's senior honorary and facilitating the relationship between UNL’s administration and students associated with the ASUN Government Liaison Committee. Michelle serves as liaison to the campus ROTC programs and military and student veterans, and works with the Alumni Association in the coordination of a variety of activities including the Alumni Advisory Council.
Prior to coming to UNL, Michelle served 11 years as a legislative aide in the Nebraska Legislature, working as the lead staffer for former Sen. Ron Withem of Papillion and Sen. Ron Raikes of Lincoln. She continues to serve as a liaison for UNL with the Unicameral.
Michelle is a graduate of Doane College and earned her master's degree in Legal Studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Law.
