Chief of Staff and Associate to the Chancellor
William J. Nunez serves as Chief of Staff and Associate to the Chancellor. In this executive role he works directly with the Chancellor in promoting, monitoring, and measuring the strategic vision, goals, and outcomes of the University, provides leadership, oversight, and guidance for major university initiatives, strategic planning, and capital projects, manages Chancellor budgets and resources including state, foundation, and other fund sources, and advises the Chancellor on campus-wide policy and administrative issues. He represents the Chancellor as needed and coordinates the activities of the Senior Administrative Team, which serves as the University's Executive Cabinet.
Dr. Nunez has direct management and oversight responsibilities for Chancellor's units including the Alumni Association, Campus Planning and Space Management , Chancellor's Commission on the Status of Women, Chancellor's Commission on Environmental Sustainability, Confucius Institute, Equity, Access and Diversity Programs, Community and Government Relations, Information Services, Institutional Research, and University Communications. Further, he provides leadership oversight to academic units reporting to the Chancellor including Lied Center for Performing Arts, Sheldon Museum of Art, and the Lentz Collection for Asian Culture. He regularly interacts with the Vice Chancellors on behalf of the Chancellor and directly participates in the formulation of academic and administrative policies at the campus level.
He joined the Office of the Chancellor in April 2010.
Nunez came to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln from the University of Louisville in September 2003 to be the director of the Office of Institutional Research and Planning. At Louisville, he was assistant director of planning, institutional research and institutional effectiveness in the office of planning and budget.
He is an assistant professor in the College of Education and Human Sciences and has also taught at Louisville and Indiana University-Southeast. Nunez holds bachelor's and master's degrees in business and master's and doctoral degrees in education.
He lives in Lincoln with his wife and two children.
