The African Poetry Book Fund (APBF) is currently searching for a part-time Assistant Project Manager to coordinate operations related to the African Poetry Digital Portal, an APBF project in collaboration with the Center for Digital Research in the Humanities at UNL.

The African Poetry Digital Portal is a cutting-edge, archival research project that seeks to document the work of African poets and provide unprecedented digital access to creative and intellectual artifacts, materials, and research housed in academic and cultural institutions in Africa and its Diaspora.

At the moment, the APBF is developing two components of the African Poetry Digital Portal: the African Poets in the News section and the Index of African Poets section. African Poets in the News is a database that will allow researchers to examine how depictions of African poetry in the news and media have influenced and shaped perceptions of what African poetry is in the 21st century. The Contemporary African Poet Index is a database (and visual map) that houses biographies and bibliographies of contemporary African poets.

Once completed, the African Poetry Digital Portal will include digital and print manuscripts, newspapers and periodicals, newsletters, audio recordings, video recordings, websites, and related collections of African poetry written by Africans from antiquity to the present.

The Assistant Project Manager will collaborate with the Co-Primary Investigators, Graduate Research Assistants, and various Graduate and Undergraduate Researchers on the two components of the portal described above. Duties will include handling communication related to the project, overseeing project milestones and deliverables, coordinating project programming and publicity events, coordinating the hiring and reimbursement of student researchers, and managing finances.

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone with excellent organization and fiscal management skills who is interested in the interdisciplinary and international work the African Poetry Digital Portal is undertaking.

To apply, please visit the job call posted here and submit the required materials by December 1st, 2021.
