Cather’s ‘My Ántonia’ to come alive in song

<p>Taking direction from Cather’s love of music, the Cather Project commissioned a song cycle inspired by the text of My Ántonia, Nebraska’s prairie and Willa Cather’s letters. The song cycle, “Prairie Songs: Remembering Ántonia,” had its world premier Tuesday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lied Center's Johnny Carson Theater, 11th and R sts. Composed by Brent Edstrom, Washington State Music Teachers Composer of the Year, the performance featured the voice of Fremont native and Glenn Korff School of Music alumnus Scott Miller (DMA 2006) and Tana Bachman-Bland on violin.</p>

<p>Performances took place at UNL, Omaha, and Fremont in March 2017. The piece was also performed in Wisconsin at the University of Madison-Whitewater, in Spokane, WA, in Red Cloud NE, in Middleton WI, and in Bordeaux, France.</p>
