Major Advisor and Lecturer Kelly Payne is a recipient of the James V. Griesen 2017 Chancellor's Award for Exemplary Service to Students. This award acknowledges extraordinary and sustained performance by an individual who goes beyond their assigned responsibilities in serving students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. This honor carries with it a cash award of $1,500.

Chancellor Ronnie Green cited Kelly Payne's "exceptional leadership and caring attitude" for students of English and Film Studies as they choose majors and minors, design concentrations, explore scholarships and financial aid, and pursue career opportunities. In addition to academic advising, she also supervises student advising interns, oversees the department's English Student Advisory Board, and coordinates the Freshmen Peer Mentoring Program. This summer, she will be co-leading a study abroad program called "Belgium and the Netherlands: Stories from the Margins" with Dr. Emira Ibrahimpasic, Assistant Director of Global Studies.

Formal presentation of the award will take place during Honors Convocation on Sunday, April 23, 2017. The Department of English joins Chancellor Green in congratulating and thanking Kelly for her dedication and hard work with undergraduate students.
