  1. Accountancy

    This doctoral-level specialization prepares students for academic careers in financial or managerial accounting, auditing, taxation, or information systems. See the Business graduate program summary for more information about the Ph.D. program.

  2. Finance

    The Ph.D. program in business with a specialization in finance is a research-oriented program designed to prepare students for academic careers. The coursework in the Ph.D. program is an intensive course of study in both the theory and empirical application of finance. The course of study includes a combination of classroom instruction, seminars, and work with the finance faculty. In addition to coursework, students are required to pass written comprehensive examinations, write a dissertation and pass a final oral examination. The Ph.D. finance specialization admits a cohort of 2-3 students each year.

    Admission Requirements

    • Entrance exam(s): GMAT or GRE. A score of 600 on GMAT (or equivalent on the GRE) is strongly recommended.

    • Personal Statement:  This statement should address why you want to pursue a Ph.D. in Finance, your career goals after attaining your Ph.D., and why you are interested in the Finance program at Nebraska.
    • Writing Sample:  Provide a writing sample that demonstrates your scholarly writing ability, for example, a term paper, thesis, or published article.

  3. Management

    The mission of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business is to foster intellectual curiosity, business insight, and effective leadership. The faculty and staff are dedicated to educating the next generation of ethical global business leaders. As a charter member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the College of Business maintains accreditation and offers both master's and doctoral programs.

    The College of Business retains close ties with professional and business leaders who are involved in the classrooms and student organizations. Companies visit the college regularly to meet with faculty, attend job fairs, and forge closer ties with the students.

    Housed within the College of Business are centers and programs that receive national acclaim. Several of these include the Bureau of Business Research; the Nebraska Council on Economic Education and the National Center for Research in Economic Education; Gallup Leadership Institute; the Nebraska Center for Entrepreneurship; and Pan-Pacific Business Association.

  4. Marketing

    The goal of the Ph.D. program is to prepare students for successful academic careers. Students learn in a stimulating and supportive environment that challenges them to grow and develop as researchers and teachers.

    We admit only a handful of new students in the fall semester each year because our Ph.D. program seeks to offer customized attention to each student. Our program provides benefits such as assistantships, tuition remission, and health insurance.

    This program requires all applicants to have a master's degree in business or a related field from an accredited university.

Graduate Admission Requirements

  • Application for Admission with $50 non-refundable application fee.
  • One set of transcripts.
  • If the student’s native language is not English, verification of English proficiency is required.
  • If International: upload copies of all college- or university-level transcripts or mark sheets (records of courses and marks earned), with certificates, diplomas, and degrees plus certified English translations.

    * Official documents are required from all students who are admitted and enroll. Photocopies of certified records are not acceptable. International students enrolled in other U.S. institutions may have certified copies of all foreign records sent directly to the Office of Graduate Studies by their current school’s registrar office.

  • If applicant is not a US citizen and expects an F or J visa: financial information.
  • Applicants must also fulfill any additional requirements the department specifies at the time of application.
