Schedule your visit
Schedule your department visit.
Contact your department of interest to request an appointment.
- Try to schedule time with faculty in your area of interest first. These faculty members are the best source of information regarding programs of study, curriculum, and what the admissions committee is looking for in an applicant.
- You may also ask to meet with current graduate students since they can be another great source of information.
Note: Some departments reserve visits for students who have applied or been admitted to their programs.
Schedule your Graduate Studies visit and campus tour.
Contact Graduate Studies at firstname.lastname@example.org or 402-472-2875.
- The Graduate Studies appointment covers topics that apply to all graduate students, such as the application process, funding opportunities, relocating, and academic and career development services.
- The walking tour of UNL's campus highlights areas of interest to graduate students.
Appointments and tours in the Office of Graduate Studies are available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Make your travel arrangements.
See Travel below.
Tips for scheduling
- Schedule at least two weeks in advance so that your requests can be accommodated.
- Some academic departments reserve visits for applicants or admitted students only; contact your department to inquire. Visits in the Office of Graduate Studies are for all students.
- Visit during the work week while classes are in session for maximum availability of faculty, current students, and university offices. Consult the academic calendar and typically avoid weekends, holidays, and finals week. If considering a summer visit, check with your department in case faculty are conducting research at off-campus sites.
Tips for the day of your visit
- Plan to spend quality time exploring the university and the surrounding community so you don't miss anything important or feel rushed.
- Dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable shoes, as the tour of campus will be a walking tour. Check the weather forecast.
- Be prepared to ask questions! The best way for you to get all of the answers you're looking for is to ask questions!
- Make sure you have directions and phone numbers before you leave home, and plan to arrive on campus a little early.
Parking is free with a parking pass from your department or the Office of Graduate Studies.
- The pass enables you to park in campus lots designated A or C. See parking maps for City Campus and East Campus.
- Hang your pass from your rearview mirror.
- Arrange your visit in advance and your parking pass can be mailed to you.
- Arrange your visit later and you'll need to pick up your pass on the day of your visit. If picking up a parking permit from Graduate Studies, come to Seaton Hall at 1525 U Street. The entrance to Seaton Hall faces south (away from the street), and you may park momentarily along U Street while you come in to pick up your permit before moving your vehicle to an appropriate lot.
For shorter appointments, you may prefer to park in one of the metered areas surrounding campus.
- Several metered spaces are available along 16th Street and S Street.
- Be sure to find a meter which will allow enough time for your appointment and to bring coins to plug your meter. Various UNL meters and city meters may allow different amounts of time (typically 10 to 90 minutes) and accept different payments (some accept quarters and dimes but not nickels, some allow payment by cell phone).
