The Teach Nebraska Program is for Nebraska teachers who want to enroll in graduate-level classes at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

How do I become a part of Teach Nebraska?

Apply for Admission! Be sure to select Non-Degree, Post-Baccalaureate and pay the $50 nonrefundable application processing fee, then upload your transcripts in MyRED.

Does this make me a graduate student?

Yes! As non-degree graduate student you will be able to enroll in master's- and doctoral-level courses in a variety of areas that will help you to advance your career.

Special Programs

History on the Rocks (Department of Geosciences)


History on the Rocks is a geology field course that focuses on interpreting sedimentary rocks, the major archive of Earth history.

This course will begin and end on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. The rest of the time will be spent camping in the field and examining world-class geologic sites exposed in eastern Nebraska, including Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park. During the time in the field you will learn to interpret sedimentary rocks, learn about the geologic history of Nebraska, develop lesson plans, and collect samples that you can use in your classroom in the upcoming year.

  • Earn one credit of graduate tuition at no cost. One or two additional credits can be added at your own expense.
  • $75 per day stipend.

Laboratory Earth (School of Natural Resources)

Laboratory Earth is part of an effort by the School of Natural Resources to refresh, expand, and strengthen K-12 teachers' knowledge and understanding of Earth science and the systems of natural resources which humans depend on and impact. The two Laboratory Earth courses will help teachers see our environment as one big laboratory, full of interactions and reactions to be studied.

Laboratory Earth is part of the Nebraska Earth Systems Education Network.

Laboratory Earth: Earth and Its Systems (NRES 809, 3 credit hours, online)
This four-module course will improve Earth science content knowledge using practical classroom approaches.

  1. Prelude to Laboratory Earth: an introduction, how-to tutorials, and accessing and manipulating data
  2. Principles and Concepts: applications of density, convection, and gravity
  3. Earth in Space: Earth and other members of the solar system
  4. Weather and Climate: weather patterns, the greenhouse effect and data interpretation

Laboratory Earth: Earth's Natural Resource Systems (NRES 814, 3 credit hours, online)
This four-module course will emphasize rock and mineral, water, soil, and energy resources. Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  • demonstrate an understanding of the properties of rocks, minerals, water, and soils
  • explain the social factors that control mineral and energy resources
  • collect and interpret data
  • understand humans' dependence and impact on natural resource systems.

Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes

Purpose and Summary

The Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes are an initiative to assist teachers in strengthening their mathematical or scientific knowledge for teaching. This program is open to K-12 teachers in Nebraska who teach math or science or are interested in strengthening their knowledge for teaching math or science.

Admission and Registration

Early registration is encouraged to ensure that textbooks will be available by the first day of class or sooner, if pre-course reading assignments are expected.

Nebraska Writing Project

The Nebraska Writing Project, a network of professional educators and affiliated writers, provides opportunities to improve, enhance and celebrate writing for classrooms and communities across Nebraska.
