Let curiosity move you to minor in humanities in medicine!

Academics

This interdisciplinary minor draws on a variety of fields in the humanities and social sciences to support students' learning about the social and cultural contexts of health, illness and heath care. You can examine health and healing as an integral part of the human experience and enrich your preparation for a career in a health related field.

Experience

In the College of Arts and Sciences, we know experience is valuable and goes beyond the classroom. We strive to help you connect your academics with research, internships, education abroad, service learning and leadership experiences.

  • Special speakers and events: You will have the opportunity to hear from and interact with prominent visiting speakers from the field of humanities in medicine. Recent topics include: palliative care, surgical sterilization, art in the lives of health care professionals, and historical perspectives on disease.
  • Observing professionals: You will have an invaluable experience shadowing health professionals, to see how responding daily to ethical and social considerations—the art of medicine—interplays with the practitioner’s scientific expertise.

Opportunities

This program will help you develop the skills you need to communicate effectively in the medical field with your peers, communities, and most importantly, patients.
