Cosmos Ordo

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Medieval and Renaissance Studies program is a proud sponsor of "Cosmos and Creation" and "Ordo in Motion," a two-part event hosted by UNO MRST.

University of Nebraska-Omaha Medieval/Renaissance Studies and the College of Saint Mary Fine Arts Department invite you to a unique immersive event in two parts - a glimpse into the mind and heart of the medieval world. On Thursday, February 21, the UNO’s Mallory Kountze Planetarium will screen “Cosmos and Creation”, a digital model of 12thcentury Hildegard of Bingen’s complex visualization of creation. This model of the universe, based on Hildegard’s treatise Scivias, is a full-dome digital presentation with music, created by Dr. Margot Fassler of Notre Dame University, the acknowledged authority on Hildegard, and Christian Jara. The presentation features a soundtrack by musicians from the Notre Dame Program in Sacred Music based on Hildegard's chants on her vision of the cosmos as it was created and spins in time toward its end. Each screening will be introduced by Dr. Fassler. Screening times: 10:30 AM, 1:30 PM, 8:00 PM. Total duration: 55 min

On Friday, February 22 at 7:30 PM Dr. Christopher Krampe will be conducting Hildegard of Bingen's masterpiece, Ordo Virtutum, at St. Cecilia Cathedral, in a riveting music/dance combination in collaboration with Omaha Academy of Ballet. Ordo Virtutum represents one of the great artistic feats of the medieval world. The haunting music and imagery of this multi-sensory experience, with choir, harp and danceswill stay with you long after the event. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a live performance of Ordo Virtutum.

Hildegard was a 12th-century composer, scientist, philosopher, mystic and creative genius. She has been named a Doctor of the Church.
