The James Arthur Vineyard Fellowship in Medieval and Renaissance Studies

The Medieval and Renaissance Studies Program is deeply grateful to the James Arthur Vineyard for giving the Medieval and Renaissance Studies a commitment for $1000 a year five years for a fellowship to support UNL student research and presentation at conferences, particularly through international travel [beyond North America].

Applications for 2023 will be do on MARCH 20, 2023 . Please e-mail completed applications to the Program Director Kelly Stage [kstage2@unl.edu] who will then distribute them to the committee.

Past James Arthur Vineyard Fellowship recipients

A completed application includes:

  • A description (up to 750 words) of how the award would be used, specific information about the nature of the project, its current status, how much has been accomplished with a chronology for completion, and a rationale for the project in terms of its contribution to the discipline. If it is for use to present at a conference, please include information about the conference and a copy of the letter or email of acceptance of the paper.
  • A statement of how the award will further the applicant’s educational goals.
  • A curriculum vitae.

Dissertation Fellowship

We offer an annual $1,000 dissertation fellowship, intended to support research including traveling to archives or other costs associated with completing the dissertation at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

To be eligible, students must have passed their Ph.D. comprehensive exams at the time of application. The deadline for applications is MARCH 20, 2023.

Those who apply for the dissertation fellowship can also ask that their application be considered for the James Arthur Vineyard Fellowship.

Past Dissertation Scholarship recipients

A completed application includes:

  • A description of the proposed dissertation (up to 750 words), including specific information about the nature of the project, its current status, how much has been accomplished with a chronology for completion, and a rationale for the project in terms of its contribution to the discipline.
  • A statement of how the award will support the dissertation, and specifics about how the funds will be used, what archives need to be visited, or other uses for the award that would enhance the quality of the dissertation and aid its completion.
  • A curriculum vitae.

Paul A. Olson Travel Award

Paul Olson and Carole Levin

The Medieval and Renaissance Studies Program also offers the Paul A. Olson Travel Award — named for the founder of the program — to help UNL Medieval and Renaissance Studies Program students to help support presentations at scholarly conferences.

The award is $200 for conferences or research travel.

The deadline for fall travel funding is October 15, and the deadline for spring travel funding is March 15, each year.
