NCORE Application

Applicant Eligibility:

  • Proven efforts in promoting campus inclusivity, specifically regarding race and ethnicity.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Currently enrolled as a University of Nebraska - Lincoln (UNL) undergraduate student.
  • Expected graduation date of May 2021 or later.
  • Active involvement on campus demonstrated through Recognized Student Organization membership (MASA, APU, MESU, AWA, UNITE, ASU, VSA, Define American etc.), positions on advisory boards, or utilizing OASIS programs and events.
  • Commitment to attend three pre-departure orientation sessions (dates to be determined).
  • Must be available to attend NCORE (including travel dates on May 26th and May 31st) and fully participate in all activities. This includes session attendance, daily OASIS group meetings, individual reflections, and an off-site cultural activity.
  • Attend regular meetings during the Fall 2020 semester and develop an individual or group project and presentation to share with campus.
  • Must participate in one of the following during the 2020-2021 academic year: OASIS Leadership Program, OASIS Mentor Program, and/or OASIS Student Advisory Board (OSAB). 

The completed application must be submitted by 4:00 PM on Monday, February 10, 2020.

  • Essay Requirements
    • Please answer the essay questions in the following format:

      • Type or print your NU ID in the top right corner of each page – do NOT include your name on any essay pages
      • Double spaced and no longer than one page (per essay)
      • Essays will be evaluated based on content and grammar. We strongly encourage you to ask an advisor, staff/faculty member, or the UNL Writing Center to review your essays before submission. 
  • Essay Questions (1 page response per question)

  1. Describe your academic pursuits and achievements, leadership interests or overall experience you have had at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
  2. What are your reasons for wanting to attend NCORE? What do you hope to gain from the conference? (Please refer to www.ncore.ou.edu to learn more about NCORE and what you can expect.)
  3. How would you promote inclusivity at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln upon your return from NCORE?

Other Information:

  • If selected, you must pay a $125 security deposit by April 1, 2020. The fee will be used to cover the costs associated with this experience (roughly $3,000/student), as well as demonstrate your commitment to NCORE and OASIS goals. Please note that if you cannot attend, the $125 is non-refundable.
  • Selected students will be responsible for covering their own meals (note: NCORE occasionally provides breakfast but this should not be relied on) and other incidental costs, in addition to the above fee.
  • All students attending NCORE (whether sponsored by OASIS or not) are expected to represent the University, and conduct themselves in a lawful manner and in compliance with the University’s standards for student conduct (see the University of Nebraska – Lincoln Student Code of Conduct).
  • Transportation will be via flight. Selected students are responsible for their own transportation to the Omaha airport.
