This past spring, Professor Dan Claes gave a presentation on "The Radioactive Origins of the Fantastic Four" as a part of UNL's Sci Pop Talks! His talk is now a central feature of the American Chemical Society's latest video, "How the Fantastic Four Got Their Powers." Professor Claes explains the science behind the superheroes in advance of the release of the Fantastic Four reboot this week.

Watch Professor Claes explain radiation and how it applies to superheroes on the Reactions YouTube channel: How the Fantastic Four Got Their Powers.

The ACS' Reactions video series explains the chemistry of everyday life, as well as your not-so-average Marvel Studios characters. Professor Claes and the Physics & Astronomy Department frequently participate in public lectures on the science behind popular culture icons as a part of the Sci Pop series and at events such as the National Science Olympiad competition.

Reactions to the video have been featured in the PBS NewsHour Blog and the UK Daily Mail MailOnline Science column.
