Outstanding faculty members are found in all research areas of the department. Atomic, Molecular, Optical & Plasma (AMOP) Physics and Condensed Matter & Materials Physics (CMMP) & Nanotechnology are nationally and internationally competitive, both in size and external funding.

Faculty in High Energy Physics (HEP) hold leading responsibilities in the DZero Experiment at Fermilab and the CMS Experiment at CERN. They also obtained NSF funding to complete the Cosmic Ray Observatory Project.

Astronomy & Astrophysics faculty actively pursue research in a variety of areas.

The department keeps a list of detailed research interests for each faculty member for students interested in conducting research with Nebraska professors.

Student Research

Our faculty annually are awarded over $16M in research funding, which helps support graduate and undergraduate workers in our laboratories.
