JD McCown, Inaugural Assistant Director of the LGBTQA+ Center, has a Bachelor’s in Psychology and Women’s and Gender Studies with Minors in English and LGBTQ/Sexuality Studies. They received a Master’s in Educational Administration (with emphases in Higher Education and Social Justice) from UNL. JD worked in both the LGBTQA+ Center and the Women’s Center during their undergraduate years at UNL and have continued their work at the LGBTQA+ Center since 2015. JD has been recognized for their work with awards that include the Inspiring Excellence: Include Award (2021), the Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to the LGBTQA+ Community (2018), the Franco’s List Award of Engagement (2016), and the Woman of Character, Courage, and Commitment Award (2016). The LGBTQA+ Center received ACPA’s Commitment to Social Justice Education Award (2017). The project that JD is the most proud of is the proposal and founding of the Prism: LGBTQA+ and Allied Learning Community, where they now are a sponsor of the program and teach the related course.
