Interest Groups


Interest groups are the essence of the UNL Women’s Club, where our mission statement comes alive. These small groups are where acquaintances develop into friendships.  Our common interests grow into strong bonds, and our desire to serve the University turns into action.  

 Our Interest Groups Include the following:

BOOK CLUB is for all who enjoy reading and discussing books with friends. Each group selects books to be read. All book clubs are planning to meet virtually.
  BOOK CLUB I –  1st Wednesday at 9:30 am.  Chair Chris Read
  BOOK CLUB II – 1st Tuesday at 9:30 am.  Chair Deb Miller
  BOOK CLUB III -  3rd Friday at 10:00am.  Chair Nancy Weller

BRIDGE groups meet monthly for bridge and friendship. Most groups are open for new and substitute members. Plans are uncertain for fall due to Covid-19.

  • BRIDGE I—1st Thursday, 11:30 am-3:00 pm, hostess choice
  • BRIDGE II—2nd Thursday, 10:30 am, hostess choice.  Play cards and eat lunch at the Grand Lodge. Chair Margie Dickinson
  • BRIDGE III—1st Thursday, 7:00 pm. New members welcome. Chair Mary Schkade

  • BRIDGE MARATHON—monthly (October-April). Chair Kay Rockwell

COMMUNITY OUTREACH - Sew or donate supplies to make masks to donate to UNL students. Chair Debby Raddatz-Portnoy

COUPLES GOURMET
meets monthly for a dinner with the theme, recipes and date chosen by the host.  Date and time chosen by host. Have met for virtual coctails and are exploring other possibilities. Nancy and Bryan Shank

CULINARY ARTS meets monthly with members bringing a dish of choice from a monthly theme selected by the group. Plans are uncertain at this time.

  • DAYTIME — 3rd Wednesday, 11:45 am. Chair Carol Riefler

  • DAYTIME/EVENING - 11:45am on the 2nd Thursday of each month.  Chairs Carol Riefler

INTERNATIONAL CLUB welcomes everyone.  Monthly programs or lunch outings to learn about other countries and their cultures. Will meet via Zoom. Dates vary. Chairs Kay Rockwell, Marilyn Schnepf, May Ann Williams.

MEALS ON WHEELS delivers hot meals to the elderly and disabled. Volunteers needed to serve for 1 to 1-1/2 hours monthly. Chair Chris Read

NEWCOMERS & FRIENDS are new members plus other members of UNLWC who wish to participate in activities. See Newcomers and Friends page for more information.  Chair Karen Buckley

PIECEMAKERS quilting group meets every Tuesday, 9:30 am-noon.  Beginners welcome.  Non-quilters are encouraged to bring a needlework project and join in.  Up in the air and on hold for the present. Chair Lori Miller

VARIETY CLUB - Join in a different activity each time we gather (e.g. movie, lunch, discussion, volunteer opportunity, performance, etc.).  Will look for safe opportunities. Chairs Mary Schkade,  Chris Wilhelm, Karen Buckley
