The Redox Biology Center (RBC)
is organized as a broad-based interdisciplinary and multi-institutional
entity involving researchers from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
(UNL) and the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha
(UNMC).
Objectives
The specific aims of the COBRE-supported Redox Biology Center (RBC)
are to buttress and expand the existing strengths in redox biology
in Nebraska by mentoring junior faculty to success, recruiting
new faculty with complementary research interests and strategically
enhancing biomedical research structure. Scientists are amalgamated
from two major research institutions in the state (UNL and UNMC).
REGISTER NOW FOR THE 2009
ANNUAL RETREAT This year the Redox Biology Center's Annual Retreat
will be held on April 3-5 at the Lied Lodge and Conference Center-Arbor
Day Farm in Nebraska City. Registration is now open and all
forms are available here. The deadline for abstract
submission in order to be considered for an oral presentation is
Monday, March 16th. Advance
room and meal registration date is Tuesday, March 24, 2009. Please
see the poster for additional information. [View

Announcing the RBC Pilot Grant Competition for Spring
2009
The Nebraska Redox Biology Center (RBC), funded by a Center for Biomedical
Research Excellence grant from the NIH, invites applications for its
pilot grant competition from faculty engaged in research in the area
of redox biology. The primary objective of this program is to stimulate
research in the area of redox biology and to enhance competitiveness
in obtaining extramural support.
Gladyshev and Lab in
Science: Dr. Gladyshev and members of his laboratory were
recently published in Science for their article "Genetic Code
Supports Targeted Insertion of Two Amino Acids by One Codon. Dr.
Gladyshev is the Director of the Redox Biology Center and the Charles
Bessey Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

congratulations to Dr. Gladyshev and members of his laboratory
on this accomplishment!
Gladyshev - ORCA WINNER
Vadim Gladyshev, professor of biochemistry and director of the UNL's Redox Biology Center, received the ORCA award for his research. View a video of Gladyshev's work:
ACS Most-Accessed Article for the First Quarter 2008 Mark Wilson's publication with Biochemistry entitled "Structural Impact of Three Parkinsonism-Associated Missense Mutations on Human DJ-1" is currently featured as one of the most-accessed articles from the first quarter 2008 on the American Chemical Society Publications website. Dr. Wilson is an Assistant Professor with the Biochemistry Department at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a member of the Nebraska Redox Biology Center. He joined the RBC in the Fall of 2005. Our congratulations to Dr. Wilson and members of his laboratory on this great accomplishment!
Membership
The Redox Biology Center welcomes applications from faculty
at UNL or UNMC who are interested in being considered for membership.
We are particularly interested in further broadening our base to
include members whose research interests are in the general area
of redox biology and who would benefit from and contribute to the
activities sponsored by the RBC. Faculty interested in becoming
a member of the Center should contact Dr. Vadim Gladyshev (vgladyshev1@unl.edu or
