UNL’s Women’s & Gender Studies program offers flexible, interdisciplinary learning, and an in-depth analysis of women, gender, and sexuality. With course offerings from more than 15 academic fields, our program introduces you to exciting ideas, dynamic professors and classmates, and feminist thought and perspectives in small, collaborative learning communities.

When you major in Women’s & Gender Studies, your core classes will include Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies; Feminist Theories, Feminists’ Perspectives; and a Senior Seminar. You may also choose to combine your major with another field, such as English, History, Journalism, Political Science, Psychology or Sociology. In addition, you can elect to take courses like Gender and Communication, Women in Popular Culture, Philosophy of Feminism, Psychology of Gender or Women in Contemporary Society.

There are two ways to obtain a major degree in Women's and Gender Studies:

Option A

Requires 36 hours from required courses and courses in History, Literature/Rhetoric and Humanities, and Social Sciences.

Option B

Requires 30 hours from required courses and courses in History, Literature/Rhetoric and Humanities, and Social Sciences, and 18 hours from a related minor.
