Getting in touch with former Huskers is a great way to expand your network, get advice and chart a path forward after college.
IYKYK: there truly is no place like Nebraska. Anyone who’s set foot on our campus knows Husker pride runs deep and stays with you for life. That’s why our alumni network is one of the strongest (and nicest) in the world, extending across countries, languages, industries and continents.
As a student, connecting with alumni is a great way to grow your network, seek advice and learn about their path after college. Alumni are always willing to lend their insights to the next generation of Huskers!
Here are 5 ways you can start connecting with UNL alumni:
1. Meet with a Career Coach in Career Services
Career Services is an amazing campus resource that you should be taking advantage of — they facilitate career connections between Huskers and the professional world through career coaching, events, professional resource creation and so much more.
Career Coaches help students build and leverage alumni connections, which can lead to mentorships, internships and jobs after college! Career Fairs also attract lots of alumni looking to connect with Husker students, so be sure to keep an eye on their calendar for upcoming fairs and other networking events!
2. Talk with Your Professor
As we all already know, Husker faculty are the best. From giving advice to making real-world connections, UNL professors are always ready and willing to help students in any way they can. Aside from being working professionals in their own fields with huge networks for students to take advantage of, they’ve also seen many of their own students move on to do big things after graduation that they’d love to connect you with.
Husker faculty are always willing to chat, so strike up a conversation!
3. Read our Alumni blogs!
Right here on our blog is a whole section dedicated to hearing from Husker alumni on what they’re up to now. From aerospace engineering to Hollywood productions, we’ve talked to alums in a lot of different (and very cool) spaces who would love to hear from you!
4. Meet with Your Advisor
Much like our Career Coaches, your college advisor will have plenty of ways to get you connected to alumni. Whether you’re looking to shadow a professional or just seek advice, advisors can set you on the path to getting in touch.
5. Join the Student Alumni Association!
The Student Alumni Association is an area with the Nebraska Alumni Association dedicated to building and strengthening connections between students and alumni. From professional events to fun campus celebrations, they’ve got all sorts of programming to get you mingling with alums. Check out their website to learn more!
