The weather outside may be frightful, but thankfully there are plenty of fun things to do around Lincoln to keep your winter months lively. We’ve got you covered with a list of warm indoor activities and — for those who don’t mind throwing on some extra layers — even some outdoor activities, too.
See a Musical, Movie and More!
If summer is for farmers’ markets, First Friday walks and outdoor concerts, then winter is for indoor performances and movies. Check out the Lied Center calendar of shows for performances ranging from nationally regarded musicals to amazing concerts and everything in between. Plus, Husker students get a 50% discount on most tickets and can even see select shows for free!
If you’re in the mood for a movie, The Ross is right on campus and shows a wide variety of fun, engaging and enlightening films from around the world! Tickets are only $5 for students, so be sure to take advantage.
Visit a Museum

Ice Skating at the Breslow Ice Hockey Center
Head to UNL’s John Breslow Ice Hockey Center for free skate nights and cosmic skate nights! Whether you’re a seasoned pro on the ice or inching your way along the side wall, grab some friends and have some fun!
Eat Local
While the winter can be a great season for home cooking, give some love to local restaurants if you’re looking to go out. We’ve already compiled this great list of restaurants in Lincoln to give you a place to start.
Escape an Escape Room
Take the idea of “shutting in” for the winter literally by trying your hand at an escape room in Lincoln. It’s a fun group activity that, as the name implies, takes place in a heated, indoor space.
Get Outdoors! (Yes, seriously)
If you’re able and willing to brave the cold, you may just find that winter has some of the most fun outdoor adventures of any season! They range from the less challenging (Lincoln has a plethora of parks and hills ripe for sledding and strolling) to the more physically demanding (with opportunities for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing).
Wilderness Park, Pioneers Park, and Holmes Lake are great places to visit and explore, even if it’s just for the scenic views!
