Taking a weekend off from Husker game day, or maybe crowds aren’t your thing? Here are a few ideas to fill your weekend plans instead of attending the big game.
Host a watch party
Whether you are living in a residence hall or in off-campus housing, gather a group of friends, your favorite snacks and cheer on the Huskers from home.
Check out the Haymarket Farmers’ Market
While others are getting ready for the game or making their way to Memorial Stadium, stop by the Haymarket Farmers’ Market this fall. Located only a few blocks from city campus, the farmers’ market features local shops and vendors of all kinds each Saturday through October 10. From baked goods and floral arrangements to home decor and clothing, you are sure to find the perfect thing.
Catch up or get ahead on your schoolwork
If you need a quiet space to escape the frenzy of game day away from campus, check out one of the many coffee shops around the city. Looking to stay on campus? Love Library, Adele Learning Commons and Dinsdale Learning Commons all have tons of study spots to fit your vibe. Check the UNL Libraries website for additional details.
Explore the outdoors
Daytime games are the perfect opportunity to check out Lincoln's extensive network of biking and jogging trails, the Sunken Gardens, the Lincoln Children's Zoo and Pioneers Park.
Check something off your bucket list
Take a day trip from Lincoln to another Nebraska destination. Explore more of what the city has to offer. Test out a new recipe, crack open the book that’s been sitting on the shelf or dive into the craft you’ve been seeing online. Just because you aren’t at the game, doesn’t mean you can’t have fun!
See a show
The theater is a quiet, relaxing way to spend your Saturday afternoon. Tune into the latest thriller, action-packed drama or comedy at one of the many local theaters. If you’re looking for something live, the Lied Center for Performing Arts has a schedule of must-see performances.
Get active
You’d be surprised just how cleared out the East Campus Recreation & Wellness Center is during home games. Head over to the Rec Center and get your pick of equipment and the space to fuel your body. If you are hoping to find an activity with friends, go bowling for free with your NCard in the Nebraska East Union.
