My fellow Huskers, welcome to the 2023 fall semester and our first academic year together!
Whether you are returning students continuing academic pursuits, or new faces eager to begin your university experience, this promises to be a year filled with growth and discovery.
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is not simply a place of red brick and mortar. This is a home to a vibrant community where dreams are realized, ideas are sparked, and futures are shaped. Our university is truly a special place, one where our community believes in the potential of every person, where we combine strengths to accomplish big things.
In your studies, be sure to actively engage with instructors. They are not just educators. They are partners in your educational journey. Their mentorship and expertise are valuable resources that can shape your academic and personal development.
On campus, reach out to others and forge friendships whenever possible. These college years will be counted among the best in your lives and the connections you make will extend far beyond our academic hallways and serve you for a lifetime.
Also, look out for each other. Do not be a bystander. If you see something that could put a fellow Husker in danger, speak up. If you encounter a negative experience yourself, tell someone.
Know that you are never alone at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. We offer many student supports and there is always a helping hand available here.
Beyond our lecture halls and labs, I challenge you to step outside of your comfort zones at every opportunity. Join a student club or activity. Get involved in research. Take advantage of internships. Engage internationally.
This is your chance to explore. Embrace that thought and always seek opportunities that offer you first-time experiences.
A university is not just a place to earn a degree. It is a place to cultivate skills, perspectives and develop a sense of purpose. As you navigate this new academic year, approach each day with an open heart and mind. Embrace collaboration, celebrate diversity and allow your passion to guide you.
I could not be more excited for you and the promise this experience at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln holds for your futures.
Let us have an unforgettable first year here at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Good luck and, as always,
Go Big Red!
